SAVING DEMOCRACY HAPPENS AT THE GRASSROOTS LEVEL
SMART ON CRIMECindy believes Tarrant County can be made safer by having experienced judges dedicated to swift, appropriate justice, not by spending more money on jails.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE POWERFUL EFFECT OF GOOD JUDGES
Black, brown, or white, we deserve the freedom to breathe.
But Tarrant County judges, and others in power have made decisions that have robbed some people of that right. As of2024 we have seen over 60 deaths in the jail under the current sheriff's administration. Judges and prosecutors have slow-walked trials of people with low-level crimes, filling our jails with people who can't afford $500 or less for bail. People are serving twice as long in the Tarrant County jail on average as the sentence the judges assessed. They have created a crisis in Tarrant County while the out-of-county, for-profit jail rakes in our tax dollars.
Now is the time to change the pattern of this tragic loss of life. Dallas County did this when they created an Assistant District Attorney (ADA) who specialized in competency. This attorney not only got people out of jail and into hospitals or other facilities to get the treatment they deserved, it saved Dallas County $300,000 the first year the position was created.
With judges who commit to speedy hearings and trials, who utilize the Mental Health Diversion Center, and policies in place to avoid sending people to jail who can’t afford a minimum amount of bail, we can make Tarrant County a place where everyone can breathe.

FREEDOM TO PROSPER
It doesn’t matter whether we’ve lived in Tarrant County all our lives or have moved here recently, the amount of money we have in our wallet now shouldn’t block our freedom to prosper in the future.
Yet our Republicans on County Commissioners' Court have taken away $44 million dollars in federal Covid relief funds earmarked to provide childcare and care for those who are homeless. Instead, they’ve funded an unneeded law enforcement training center. Tarrant County taxpayers just paid $101 million for such a center in 2017.
With a smarter justice system, we can provide freedom from fear of becoming a crime statistic, and still support our most vulnerable citizens: children and the homeless. By providing a speedy movement of cases through our judicial system, we can save taxpayer dollars without sacrificing safety.
We don’t need more police training. We need smart, hardworking, compassionate judges who will get those with mental health problems the help they need, and who will streamline the judicial process without sacrificing good judgment.
Together we can put our tax dollars to work more effectively so that everyone has the freedom to thrive in a safe environment.

FREEDOM TO BE SAFE
Everyone in our community, whatever race or gender, deserves to be safe. Justice done in a timely manner ensures violent offenders are in jail, and those accused of lesser crimes don’t languish in jail for lack of bail money.
Yet the current justice system in Tarrant County– Republican County Commissioners, Republican Sheriff’s Department, Republican District Attorney, and Republican judges–aren’t focused on our safety. Certain members of our system prioritize power and profit over protection. They are lining their pockets instead of serving all the people–rich and poor, black and white–in our county.
We need people and a system dedicated to timely justice. We need judges who will get violent offenders to prison instead of on bond in your community. Just because they can meet the bail money, doesn’t mean an accused murderer should be wandering our community for five years before being tried and convicted.
We need judges who will mete out punishments respectful of all defendants, yet appropriate to the crime. A defendant who threatened to murder numerous members of a church should not be put on probation as was done recently in Tarrant County.
Together we can build a justice system that will bring safety to all people of Tarrant County while lowering the cost to taxpayers. Elect the people who can bring this vision into reality.
